Zirconia Products

Essentially, zirconia can be classified into three groups, being:
  • Monolithic ultra-translucent zirconia (Cercon XT / Cercon XTML)
  • Monolithic high strength translucent zirconia (Cercon HT)
  • Layered zirconia (PFZ)
The aesthetic and functional requirements of a case dictate which of the three solutions is apt.  The below table may serve as a useful tool to outline their applications:
Type
Brand
Description
Required Clearance (Manufacturer’s Guidelines stated only)
Monolithic ultra-translucent zirconia
Cercon XT / Cercon XTML
  • Ultra-Translucent Zirconia
  • 750MPa flexural strength (approx.) highly translucent cubic zirconia
  • Cercon XT is solid colour throughout whereas Cercon XTML has more translucency towards the incisal as it is a multi-layer zirconia
  • Suitable for anteriors as well as posteriors if matching mid-highly translucent dentition
  • Bridges up to three units
  • Patented True Colour Technology (TCT)
  • Premium German-made zirconia
0.6mm occlusal
0.5mm radial
Monolithic high strength translucent zirconia
Cercon HT
  • ≥1,200 MPa flexural strength translucent zirconia
  • Suitable for anteriors if matching mid-low translucency dentition
  • Bread and butter posterior option
  • Up to full-arch bridges
  • Patented True Colour Technology (TCT)
  • Premium German-made zirconia
0.5mm occlusal
0.4mm radial
Layered Zirconia
Cercon XT or Cercon HT or Ivoclar Zenostar
  • An ideal option for highly aesthetic anterior work, especially when deep characterisation is required/wanted
  • Zirconia substructure depends on the required shade, whether or not the preparation is discoloured and reduction afforded (don't worry... the technician will select which one!)
  • Ivoclar Zenostar is used for cases with dark or discoloured preparations due to it's high level of opacity
  • Full-range of VITA 3D Master, VITA Classical shades as well as special effects available
  • Zirconia substructure can be made opacious to aid in blocking out discoloured preparations (afforded reduction and severity of discolouration dependent)
  • Lingual/palatal can be left as monolithic zirconia for tooth preservation/additional strength
  • Premium German-made zirconia
Substructure is Cercon HT or Ivoclar Zenostar:
0.5mm occlusal
0.4mm radial

Substructure is Cercon XT:
0.6mm occlusal
0.5mm radial
